    Repeated rape incidents, police behaviour show no rule of law in UP: MK Stalin

    DMK president M K Stalin on Thursday while condeming the two gang-rape incidents said that reports suggest that such incidents were happening continuously in Uttar Pradesh and opposition parties there allege that the State has become unsafe for women to lead a normal life.

    Referring to police manhandling of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who had gone there to console the family of the victim, Stalin said the video footage only led him to opine that there was no rule of law in UP and an atrocious regime was happening there.

    Describing the assault on Rahul as disrespectful, inhuman and condemnable act which was against human rights and democratic norms, the DMK president said the UP Chief Minister should tender an apology for the same. In a message posted on his official Twitter handle in this regard, Stalin tweeted, “If @RahulGandhi can be manhandled for seeking #JusticeForIndiasDaughters what protects the common man from @myogiadityanath?”

    Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K S Alagiri was arrested by the city police while staging a condemnation protest in front the party state headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan against the alleged assault cum arrest of his party leader Rahul Gandhi. Describing the incident as inhuman and condemnable, Alagiri said the incident demonstrates the barbaric government being led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

    The 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped at a village in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh by four men on September 14. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to the Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital where she breathed her last on Tuesday. She was cremated in the early hours of Wednesday, with her family alleging the local police forced them to conduct the last rites at night.
