Speeding up the possession of former CM J Jayalalithaa officers visited her erstwhile residence Veda Nilayam.

The Edappadi K Palaniswami government wants to convert the residence into a memorial of the late leader.

Veda Nilayam was inspected by a team led by Director of Information and Public Relations P. Shankar and Revenue Divisional Officer.

This inspection is said to be the first of a cluster of inspections to come.

Earlier, the government passed an ordinance on May 21 which was then passed as a bill on September 16 by a voice vote.

They have deposited a sum of Rs 68 crores to the City Civil Court to complete the formalities.

This was consistently denounced by J Jayalalithaa's legal heirs J Deepak and J Deepa (her nephew and niece) who were declared so by Madras High Court following the promulgation of ordinance.

Deepak and Deepa complained that government cannot go ahead with the acquisition dodging their consent.
