Certain provisions introduced in the Bills, including contract farming are already practised in Tamil Nadu, he told reporters. The three bills will enhance the livelihood of Tamil Nadu farmers and the Chief Minister has proved that he is a custodian of farmers and their rights. “Tamil Nadu was the first State to execute the contract farming through a State Act last year and the Centre is replicating certain provisions of the State’s Contract Farming Act,” Doraikkannu said.

Welcoming the government’s view, BJP state president L Murugan said that the Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu are playing politics over the Farm Bills. “The objective of the Bill is to double the income of farmers and as per the draft it will empower the farmers to fix the price of the agricultural produce. At the same time, farmers cooperatives can bring in foreign equipment and fertilisers to enhance the crop yield,” Murugan explained.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a detailed explanation on how the Farm Bills will be a game-changer for the farmers, but the Opposition is doing politics over the issue,” Murugan said.

Thiruvadanai MLA Karunaas who won in alliance with AIADMK said that he was objecting the Farm Bills introduced by the BJP and emphasised that they should be withdrawn as the farmers across the country are protesting against the controversial changes.
