It was a walk down memory lane for Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his Deputy O Panneerselvam who recalled the varied brilliant songs that the renowned artiste had regaled generations of Tamil audiences with, dating back to the films of AIADMK leaders MGR and J Jayalalithaa. In his detailed obituary statement, EPS recalled how former CM MG Ramachandran, when he was at his peak in the Tamil film industry, gave SPB the chance to croon the evergreen Aayiram Nilavae Vaa in his film Adimai Penn and also recalled that the song Thanga Tharagaiye Varuga Varuga sung for former CM Jayalalithaa is a still a popular hit among the AIADMK workers.“I was hoping for SPB to recover from corona, but this news has come as a shock to me and all his fans across the globe. The multi-faceted personality made his mark as a singer in four languages holding a Guinness record,” OPS said in his statement.DMK leader MK Stalin in his tweet said that Tamils across the State were grieving over the demise of the legendary music icon. “The State should reflect the sentiments of the public and SPB should be laid to rest with State honours,” Stalin tweeted.PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss termed the demise as an “irreversible loss” to the music world. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president KS Alagiri, former Union Minister P Chidambaram, MDMK Chief Vaiko, Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder TTV Dhinakaran were among the other leaders who extended their condolences. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit termed the demise of SPB an irreplaceable loss for the musical world and his millions of fans. “Born as a Telugu, SPB won the hearts of Tamils through his golden voice,” Tamilisai said.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in his tweet expressed profound grief over the demise of the musical maestro. “SPB Garu a powerhouse of talent, SPB has enthralled millions with his blissful renditions. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.”
