District Collector recommends cultivation of pulses in Nagapattinam
The farmers from Nagapattinam who have cultivated pulses as an alternate crop for Kuruvai have received good harvest and the other farmers are also asked to follow similar cultivation, asked the district Collector Praveen P Nair on Saturday.

Inspecting the pulses cultivation undertaken in Mohanur in Nagapattinam, the district collector Praveen P Nair said, the agri department had distributed seeds of fine variety pulses in addition to the proper fertilisers and provided on time advice which fetched the farmers a good yield and the farmers who have cultivated pulses as an alternate crop for Kuruvai with the officials distributing the seeds developed in the seed farm at farm developmental project which has been undertaken in an area of 15 ha. The collector said that the proper guidance by the officials had supported the farmers this year and the due availability of water, black gram has been harvested in an area of 116 ha in the district which was just 22 ha till the previous year. He advocated to cultivate the pulses as it is a short time crop and a farmer can get a gain upto Rs 60,000 in 65 days.
