Centre’s Sept 1 meet will decide on reopening of theatres: Raju

Taking into account the genuine concerns of cinema theatre owners, who repeatedly demanding for reopening of theatres, the Central government authorities have scheduled to convene a meeting on September 1. Based on the outcome of the meeting, the state government would decide on a schedule for reopening.

Earlier, the Minister honoured the sacrifice of freedom fighters at Kadalaiyur Freedom Fighters Memorial Stubi.

It was in August, 1942, a day known for honour, struggle, bravery and sacrifice when 34 Tyagis led by Vailukanda Muthaliyar braved out the attack against the British during the Quit India Movement. he contributions of freedom fighters were remembered on the occasion. The Quit India Movement was organised and led by Veilukanda Muthaliyar, a freedom fighter, in protest against the British rule in India.

Sankaralinga Muthaliyar, who took part in the struggle, sacrificed his life after he was gunned down by the British. Three others, who took part, sustained bullet wounds, after the British opened gun fire. In commemoration of the sacrifices, the Minister paid tributes to the portrait of late Veilukanda Muthaliyar at his memorial in Kadalaiyur.

The Minister also took stock of the renovated birth house of the legendary Tamil Poet C. Subramania Bharati of late ancient times at Ettayapuram in Thoothukudi district. He also garlanded the statue of the late Tamil Poet.
