Kin, police fraternity bid tearful farewell to slain Subramanian

His death shocked not only his family members, but the entire police fraternity too. On Wednesday after the post mortem procedures, his mortal remains were taken to Pandaravilai and his last rites were conducted with full state honours.
A contingent of police officers led by Director General of Police JK Tripathy paid last respects at his funeral. Tripathy laid a wreath on the coffin and saluted as a sign of respect to the cop martyred in the attack. Inspector General of Police (South Zone) S Murugan, Tirunelveli Deputy Inspector General of Police Praveen Kumar Abinapu, Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police S Jeyakumar and other high ranking officers followed suit.
Chants of ‘a big salute to brave heart Subramanian’ echoed all over the village and his friends mourned his death with posters all over the place.
The most heart wrenching scene was his wife with their 10-month-old baby pleading again and again to see the martyred cop’s face for the last time before his burial. It was with a heavy heart that people around her managed to console her. At last, his mortal remains were buried with full state honours as a contingent of police gave him a 30-gun salute.
Earlier, Tripathy paid floral tributes to the portrait of Subramanian at Tirunelveli DIG office. While talking to reporters in Tirunelveli, Tripathy expressed grief over the loss of fellow policemen citing that it’s unfortunate but denied any allegation that police personnel were not protected and added that they were in possession of weapons and had been adequately trained to deal with any eventuality.
He also denied any encounter killing of Duraimuthu, the accused who hurled country-bomb at Subramanian during the operation to nab him. He also added that police personnel would be trained under the guidance of SP’s and DIG’s to engage in such operation to curb criminals. Further, the DGP said the police could pool funds to help the victim’s family.
