    Chennai report more than 1k covid cases again, State tally crosses 3.5 lakh

    Continuing the trend, the State recorded 5,795 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 10 imported cases from other states and countries. With this, the total number of cases in Tamil Nadu has reached 3,55,449.

    According to the state health ministry, as many as 2,96,171 persons have recovered from COVID-19, which is a 83 percent recovery rate as of Wednesday evening.

    The death toll breached the 100 mark again on Wednesday with 116 fatalities. As per the data, 6,123 persons had died due to the virus; a 1.7 per cent mortality rate.

    Only 53,155 persons are under treatment in the state, which is nearly 15 per cent.

    Meanwhile, Chennai’s count crossed 1,000 again on Wednesday with 1,186 more testing positive. It amounted to 20% of total cases in the state. The city has been seeing new cases going over 1,000 since August 14.

    The active cases in Chennai stands at 12,256 while 1,039 persons were discharged on Wednesday. 16 of the 116 deaths were reported in the state capital.

    As of date, 1,20,267 persons were tested positive for the COVID-19 in Chennai and 1,05,494 were discharged. A total of 2,517 persons died have died (mortality rate 0.7%) due to the pandemic.

    Coimbatore, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu recorded highest number of cases after Chennai with 394, 393 and 315 new infections respectively. Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Salem and Theni reported over 200 cases.

    Tamil Nadu has tested 39,13,523 samples and 37,78,249 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.

    The number of Covid-19 cases between the age of 0-12 has risen to 17,026 in the state.
