Tamil Nadu: Over 1.6 lakh recover from COVID-19, 73 per cent of total cases cured
Of the 2,20,716 who tested positive for the virus in the state, 1,62,249 patients recovered as of today.

The number of patients who recovered from the coronavirus disease in Tamil Nadu crossed 1.6 lakh today. At least 5,723 people were discharged from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu recorded 6,993 new COVID-19 positive cases, from testing a whopping 61,342 persons taking the tally of coronavirus infected to 2.2 lakh.
Of the 2,20,716 who tested positive for the virus in the state, 1,62,249 patients recovered as of today, according to data released by ministry of health and family welfare. Nearly 73% of the total coronavirus cases were cured since the outbreak.
The state also recorded 77 deaths on Monday, with a total of 3,571 people succumbing to the virus.
Meanwhile, the number of daily new coronavirus cases outside Chennai continues to exceed those within the state capital.
While Chennai is witnessing a mild increase in the number of COVID-19 cases with the city reporting 1,138 cases (95,857 overall cases) on Monday, the neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram reported a rise of 448, 474 and 362 new cases over the past 24 hours. The combined tally of these three districts has crossed 1,200 cases in a day.
At least 300 cases were reported in Coimbatore, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar while Madurai, Ranipet, Theni, Thiruvannamalai reported more than 200 cases on Monday.
Tamil Nadu has tested 24,14,713 samples and 23,24,080 people so far, according to the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Public Health.
The active cases in Chennai stands at 13,064 while 1,821 persons were discharged on Monday. 21 of the 77 deaths were reported in the state capital.
The number of active cases in the state stood at 54,896.
The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 years went up to 11,042.
