Police fire in air to disperse clashing groups
Tension prevailed at a village in Pudukkottai after police opened fire in the air to control two groups which were clashing with deadly weapons, due to a long running rivalry since the local body polls. In a swift follow-up action, police have secured around 25 persons from both the groups.

Sources said, Paramasivam (50) of Posampatti near K-Pudupatti in Pudukkottai district and Udayappan (48) of the same area developed enmity with each other following an altercation during the local body polls. This led to frequent quarrel between the supporters of Pamarasivam and Udayappan.
In such a backdrop, Thirunavukarasu (46), a supporter of Paramasivam uploaded an offensive statement on social media against Udayappan. This infuriated the men of Udayappan and snowballed into a deadly clash between the two groups on Monday. Five persons sustained serious injuries in the clash. All of them have been admitted to Pudukkottai GH.
Even after this, the groups did not relent and again clashed on Tuesday morning with lethal weapons. They also hurled stones at each other. On information, the police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the clash under control, but the groups refused to budge. As the situation was slipping out of control, the police fired in the air after which both the groups dispersed from the spot.
Tiruchy Range DIG Z Annie Vijaya and Pudukkottai SP Balaji Saravanan rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. The police also arrested around 25 persons from both the groups.
