4,985 new Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu, 74 per cent outside Chennai
The number of daily new COVID-19 cases outside Chennai continues to exceed those within the state capital, the state Health Department reported on Monday.

The increase in cases outside Chennai district has become a cause for concern and is slowly shifting the focus of Health professionals and government officials away from Chennai zone to other affected regions.
Tamil Nadu on Monday reported 70 new deaths from the coronavirus outbreak, bringing the statewide toll to 2,551.
As many as 4,985 persons tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours in Tamil Nadu while 3,861 Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals.
Chennai continued to see a decline in COVID-19 infections, as it recorded a marginally low caseload of 1,298 cases (out of 4,985), taking its total to 87,235. The active cases in the city stands at 15,127 while the total number of Covid-19 patients discharged stood at 70,651.
The total tally of infected persons till date in Tamil Nadu has crossed 1.75 lakh (1,75,678). Total number of recovered cases stood at 1,21,776. The active cases of COVID 19 in the state stands at 51,348.
As many as 52,087 samples were tested today. Totally 19,84,579 samples were tested in the state. There are around 112 Covid-19 testing facilities in Tamil Nadu. The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 8,776.
