Coimbatore Collector tests positive

Following this, Rajamani was admitted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) in Coimbatore. The Collector, who was on the frontline in the administration’s battle against COVID, has been visiting containment zones to monitor infection control activities and was also participating in public awareness events.

Last week, the Collector made inspections at containment zones in Selvapuram and Telugu Street and interacted with people. These crowded localities turned out to be a major cluster in Coimbatore with more than 30 people testing positive for COVID-19 in Selvapuram area.

Officials of the Health Department said that the Collector showed only mild symptoms and is stable. Efforts are on to trace the contacts of the Collector and works are underway to fumigate the collectorate premises. Those who participated in functions attended by Collector have been asked to be under quarantine. The Collector’s chamber has been closed. A day after reporting the highest ever cases (188) on Tuesday, the district had 104 cases taking the total tally to 1,591 on Wednesday. Currently, there are 1,173 active cases of COVID-19 in the district.
