Erode, which was one among the few districts across Tamil Nadu to be earmarked as red zone, managed to come out of the grip of COVID-19 earlier than others. However, the district has been witnessing a surge in infections and has registered over 400 positive cases so far.
Five mobile dispensary vehicles, each deputed with a team of doctor, nurse, and a medical assistant have been deployed to visit several residential areas to examine people for cold and fever. It has been targeted to examine atleast 5,000 people on a daily basis. If someone shows symptoms of COVID-19, then they will be sent to Erode Government Hospital for treatment.”Initially, the mobile dispensaries will cover areas inside Corporation limits and will be extended to rural areas too if need arises,” said officials.
A few voluntary organisations and educational institutions have also come forward to extend their support in providing vehicles for the mobile dispensary.
