    Later, the Health Secretary along with Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar and Collector TG Vinay inspected the construction site of AIIMS Hospital at Thoppur in Madurai.

    The Revenue Minister talking to reporters said the gazette notification issued by the Centre on AIIMS tends to be a milestone in the development of Madurai. The land acquisition process has been completed and the compound wall construction for the much awaited AIIMS hospital reached about 80 per cent. Owing to lockdown restrictions, construction of such infrastructure developments slowed down, he Minister added.

    Speaking to reporters Health Secretary Radhakrishnan rued lack of awareness of using face masks among people in Madurai. People should not take COVID-19 lightly since the viral disease is Tsunami like disaster and it has been a challenging task for government and all.

    Moreover, the Health Secretary said COVID-19 testing is done largely in districts of Tamil Nadu, which stands first among other states in India with around 35,000 tests on a daily basis. In the wake of rise in positive cases in Madurai, he said the health officials have been asked to conduct more fever surveillance camps in various parts of the district. Radhakrishnan also appealed to the people not to panic.
