VOC Port chief pitches for more industries
Highlighting the strengths and capabilities of the Thoothukudi seaport to handle large volumes of cargo, Chairman of VO Chidambaranar Port Trust TK Ramachandran stressed the need for port-led economic development as the key to development of southern districts.

Addressing a programme on Virtual Conference on ‘Explore Export 2020’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Saturday evening, Thoothukudi Port Trust chairman invited companies to invest in Thoothukudi district citing that the Port has plenty of land available for industrial development. Stressing the need for more industrialisation, he offered all the possible help to investors from the Port to facilitate investments.
During his address, Neeraj Mittal, Managing Director and CEO, Guidance, Tamil Nadu, highlighted the various features of the state’s industrial growth potential with a focus on exports. Hari K Thiagarajan, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu and Executive Director, Thiagarajar Mills Private Limited said exporters must build a higher share in the market for products and actually focus on a higher gross value. V Krishna Shankar, Event Chairman, CII Explore Export and Director, Subramany Shipping Agencies said one of the focus areas of CII in its 125th anniversary is how to boost exports to drive growth and achieve five per cent share in world merchandise trade and services by 2025.
