Vehicle checks have been intensified in Coimbatore as many people tried to enter the district without e-pass from Chennai and other districts. Intensified checks are being carried out at 11 check posts set up in the district.

Vehicles without valid documents were being seized. As many as 15 vehicles were seized at Thekkalur check post on a single day on Saturday. Also a private bus carrying more than 50 passengers from Tirupur was seized following orders from District Collector K Rajamani. Such strict action follows after a large number of jewelry showroom staff managed to sneak into the district without an e-pass.

Similarly, in Erode district, all vehicles were stopped for a check and those without e-pass were denied entry into the district.

Besides tightening vigil, Tirupur district administration has asked the public to call the control room at 0421 2971133 to inform quarantine violators. In addition to intensive checks at district borders, the public should keep a watch and inform us if someone comes from other districts. “It will be helpful for the administration to check if those persons were under our watch list and their quarantine status,” said Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan.

In an appeal to the public, the Collector also urged people not to share unconfirmed reports about COVID-19 on social media.

Meanwhile, traders’ associations in Coimbatore have announced voluntarily that shops will remain open only from 7 am to 5 pm every day from Monday.

In Erode district, the Federation of All Trade and Industry Associations of Erode District (FATIA) have announced that shops and establishments would function from 6 am to 2 pm from Monday till June 30. In Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts too, the commercial establishments have announced restricting the business hours from 6 am to 3 pm from Monday.
