Polytechnic to be used as quarantine camp
Revenue, civic and health officials of the district inspected existing facilities at the Bagayam-based Thanthai Periyar Government Polytechnic and the government engineering college on the same campus for use as a COVID-19 quarantine center for relatives and friends of those testing positive in both Vellore town and district on Thursday.

While Corporation Commissioner K Sankar accompanied by DD (health) Manivannan and others inspected the premises on Wednesday evening, Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram visited the campus on Thursday.
Sources revealed that the ladies’ hostel ground floor plus two floors and another ground plus three floors in another building had been earmarked for use as a COVID-19 quarantine facility.
Meanwhile, residents of Pernamallur in Tiruvannamalaid district agitated against the local PHC being converted into a COVID-19 treatment facility. When approached by local police they said they wanted the PHC to continue its regular treatment of all patients which would be affected if it was a made into a facility for COVID-19 patients. The crowd dispersed after police said that their demand should be notified in writing to the administration and then action would be taken.
