Speaking to reporters after inspecting desilting works at Dhooriyar irrigation drain at Vilangudi near Tiruvaiyaru, Doraikannu said, the state has been initiating all steps to support Cauvery Delta farmers. Since knowing the requirements of the farmers for being one among them, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has put forth desilting and kudimaramathu schemes.

Stating that almost 95 per cent of works have been completed, the Agriculture Minister said, the remaining works would be completed within two days. He also said that the state is keen on ensuring water availability to the farmers in the tail end regions of the Cauvery Delta. “Once water is released from the Kallanai, it would certainly reach the tail end region and the farmers are expected to undertake kuruvai cultivation without hesitation,” Doraikannu stressed.

Meanwhile, the Minister said that instead of the kuruvai package, the farmers are distributed with the equal benefits, including three phase power supply, subsidy for fertilizer, distribution of bio-fertilisers and other supportive compound fertilisers.

Similarly, the Chief Minister has been initiating steps to distribute agriculture loans to farmers who are in need. The state government has decided to release loans to those farmers who had prompt repayment of loan record. “So far loans worth Rs 344 crore has been allocated and all the eligible farmers can avail it without any delay,” the Minister assured.
