    Tangedco ignores GO on 55-yr limit, hires retired employees

    The State government has allowed industrial units to commence operations with various restrictions including keeping away employees who are above the age of 55 from work while the Tangedco on the contrary is going ahead with appointment of retired personnel in various posts.

    In an order dated May 28, the Tangedco has allowed filling up of 50 per cent vacant posts in the technical assistants and line inspectors at 33/11 KV substations with retired officials and staffs.

    “The proposal received from.....has been examined carefully and the board has considered and approved the proposal to accord the administrative approval for filling up the 50 per cent of vacant posts of technical assistant/line inspector in all the 33/11 KV substations by engaging retired officials and staff in the level of junior engineer, I grade, junior engineer electrical II grade, foreman I grade, special grade foreman and line inspector through outsourcing for maintaining uninterrupted power supply in all the distribution circles till the vacant posts are filled by recruitment and promotion,” said the order.

    It also said that the retired official and staff would be eligible for payment of Rs 500 per shift remuneration. It noted that no substations should be operated only with retired officials or staff.

    CITU state president A Soundararajan said that the advisory to keep away people above 55 years from works with salary as a precautionary measure is a scientific approach.
