TN crosses 12K mark, becomes State with 2nd highest positive cases
Tamil Nadu crossed the 12,000 mark on Tuesday with at least 688 persons testing positive for COVID-19, raising the State tally to 12,488. This includes 87 people who have come from other states and countries.

Of the 601 instances of local spread in TN, 552 were reported in Chennai alone. Among other districts, 22 cases were reported in Chengalpattu, eight in Tiruvallur and five in Kancheepuram. Thanjavur reported three new cases, while Ramnad and Kanniyakumari recorded two cases each. Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Nagapattinam, Ranipet, Theni, Thoothukudi and Tiruchy recorded one case each.
A total of 54 people remain in airport quarantine, while two are under railway quarantine and 18 passengers who had returned from other countries had initially tested negative but later turned positive during exit screening after seven days. Three more deaths were reported taking the toll in the State to 84. The deaths were reported at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and the deceased had underlying comorbid conditions, according to a Health Department bulletin. A total of 7,466 cases are currently active in the State, of which 5,691 are active in Chennai. Chennai accounts for more than 76 percent of the total active cases of COVID-19 across the State. On Tuesday, 489 more patients were discharged post treatment from several hospitals across the State. A total of 4,895 patients have recovered in TN so far.
On Monday, 178 repatriated Indians arrived at Chennai airport and from there were taken to the quarantine camp at Tambaram IAF. Of them, 23 tested positive.
Tamil Nadu has become the State with second highest coronavirus cases. Until now, Gujarat had the second-highest number of cases at 11,745. While Maharashtra with the highest tally is yet to ease the extended lockdown, TN has allowed salons to reopen in rural areas and factories have also started operating.
