Collectors told to brace up for monsoon, cyclone battle
In the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the State government is simultaneously preparing itself for the upcoming southwest monsoon showers and cyclones, if any.
Chennai
Commissioner for Revenue Administration J Radhakrishnan wrote a letter to all the district collectors about the steps to be taken during the monsoon and cyclone times and asked them to ensure that relief centres with medical facilities are kept in adequate numbers.Â
In the 10-point instructions issued to the district collectors, Radhakrishnan asked them to ensure that additional shelters and relief camps are set up as the relief camps may not be adequate due to social distancing norms. Over-crowding should also be avoided.Â
The frontline workers and volunteers needed to be briefed about their works and should be provided with adequate PPEs. Regular medical check-ups should be undertaken in relief camps to ensure that people who are made to stay in the relief camps do not get COVID-19 infection.Â
Any quarantine centre if set up in any cyclone prone area should be relocated immediately. Managing cyclone works during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis requires additional human, infrastructural and material requirement and district collectors should ensure that all three are kept ready.Â
