Two killed in drunken brawls in Thanjavur, Vellore
A notorious anti-social in Thanjavur was hacked to death in a quarrel which erupted while consuming alcohol on Thursday late night and a youth was killed by a gang of his friends in Vellore while trying to mediate between the drunk groups.

It is said, Arunkumar (27), of Keezhavasal in Thanjavur, against whom as many as 34 cases, including a few murder cases, are pending was consuming alcohol along with his friends Kathirvel (36), his brother Pichandi (28) and Muthu (33). Suddenly, Arunkumar picked up a quarrel with Kathirvel which snowballed into an assault. Soon, the trio Kathirvel, Pichandi and Muthu attacked Arunkumar with a knife killing him on the spot.
Neighbours spotted Arunkumar’s body on Friday morning and informed the police. A search is on for the absconding three persons. Meanwhile, in Karur two persons were killed in separate incidents.
Tragedy struck a youth in Ranipet on the day of reopening of Tasmac shops. A group of six led by one Rajasekar (22) from Gandhinagar in Ranipet started consuming alcohol and suddenly started an argument. They decided to call their friend Bose (24) to mediate. Bose arrived and while they were talking, the drunk men turned on the mediator and pushed him down forcefully. Realizing their mistake, they rushed Bose to Wallajahpet GH, but the doctors declared him brought dead. Shocked, all six left the victim’s body in the hospital and ran away. Hospital authorities informed police. A case was registered and search is on for the six friends.
