Tamil Nadu Bar Council requests Chief Justice to resume normal sittings from June
The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (BCTN and P) has urged the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court to take steps to have regular sittings from June.

The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry chairman PS Amalraj, in a statement issued here on Friday, said the Chief Justice should ensure the resumption of sitting by taking into consideration all aspects. He also noted that in a bid to help the advocates whose livelihood has been affected owing to the lockdown, BCTN and P has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 4,000 to as many as 12,000 advocates.
“The Bar Council received 17,059 applications from the advocates and after scrutinising the same, 12,000 were found eligible,” he said noting that considering the number of eligible claims and with limited resources, the Bar Council has unanimously resolved to disburse Rs 4,000 to the eligible advocates by way of cheque. He also said the Bar Council has pooled in Rs 5 crore for the purpose which included Rs 1 crore from Judges, Senior Advocates, Advocates and others, Rs 3 crore from BCTN and Ps General Fund and Rs 1 crore from S Prabakaran, Chairman, Bar Council of India Advocates Welfare Fund Committee.
