Asst Commissioner, inspector, woman SI test positive

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, an inspector and a woman sub-inspector were among seven police personnel who tested positive for COVID in the city on Thursday.

Since Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital falls under the Assistant Commissioner’s jurisdiction, the official had often visited the hospital and is suspected to have contracted the virus from the hospital premises, though it is not confirmed. He is the third police official to test positive for COVID in Chennai North after the two sub-inspectors.

Similarly, the crime inspector of Tirumullaivoyal tested positive for the virus on Thursday. Also, a woman sub-inspector, who works in the Intelligence Section, too tested positive. A resident of Korattur, she has been admitted to Kilpauk MCH. Her husband works at the SB-CID control room where already a couple of them contracted the virus. The others who became COVID positive on Thursday were three Armed Reserve constables and a traffic head constable.

Meanwhile, city police have clarified on the messages that were doing the rounds about a woman constable posted at Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s official residence testing positive.

“The woman constable was on bandobast duty on Greenways Road where the CM’s residence is located and she was on duty till April 30. On May 3, her samples showed symptoms of the virus, and she was admitted to Omandurar Government Hospital in Triplicane. However, the confirmatory results showed negative and she was discharged from the hospital and has been asked to quarantine herself for one week.
