Cautioning the state, Stalin said, “The numbers released yesterday (Monday) show that the disease spread has not been controlled. The easing of lockdown should not contribute to (further) spike in cases,” he said, advising the state to hold detailed discussions and consult people of various segments without political intent and make constructive efforts to save the lives of people.

“Lives of people should not be lost to ignorance, ego and politics,” Stalin said, adding that the steep rise in number of coronavirus positive cases every day is alarming and creating panic in Tamil Nadu. Attributing the huge turnout at Koyambedu market on March 24 and April 25 to the negligence of the government in planning and execution, Stalin wondered if the convergence of thousands of wholesale and retail traders without social distancing from midnight to dawn was proof of governance. A sarcastic Stalin asked, “If Chennai metropolis has a police commissionerate or has it been locked and sealed too?”
