SI transferred after Vellore traders’ plaint
The overnight transfer of Vellore North police station Inspector K Nagaraj to Alangayam police station in Tirupattur district has gladdened vegetable and grocery merchants in Vellore’ Nethaji market, according to sources.
Vellore
Nagaraj was replaced by R Senthil Kumar on other duty in Tirupattur district. The sources revealed that following complaints top police officials pulled up lower ranks for various acts of high-handedness.
Vellore All Traders Association sources revealed that though Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram understood their plight, the police were not. “When the administration changed shopping timings from 6 am to 10 am to control crowds, we approached him and told him that overcrowding could not be helped due to the congested nature of Nethaji market and hence we requested him to change timings. He did so and now we work from 7 am to 12 noon,” the source said.
“But the police do not understand that we have to open shops 15 minutes before and after the opening and closing times to layout items and bring them in again. Vellore North police would descend on us, address us in the singular and take away the shop keys or a shop worker and demand that we come to the station.
