A migrant worker from Odisha, who set out on foot to his home town from Tirupur, was rescued by district administration authorities on Thursday.

The 28-year-old man, working in a textile firm in Tirupur, was rescued following a tweet by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan. He came to Tirupur only a month ago and joined MSK Garments at Ganapathipalayam in Palladam.

As he lost job following the lockdown, the migrant labourer had begun a long journey by walk without informing the firm authorities. He vacated the hostel on April 12 and reached Erode on April 13 evening.

Meanwhile, other migrant workers, who on coming to know of his solo expedition, had tweeted the matter to Odisha Biju Janata Dal’s former Member of ParliamentKalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, who then re-tweeted it to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, the district administration authorities rescued the migrant worker from Erode and brought him back to the textile firm’s hostel in Tirupur on Thursday.
