2 Perambalur villages’ entry points sealed

They also spray natural sanitizer on people returning to their respective villages. A group of youth from Malayalapatti - a tribal village in Perambalur district - have sealed the entry points on both sides of the village after the government imposed Section 144.

There are around 800 families in the village and the youth, who formed a special group to ensure the safety of their village, mostly belong to the below poverty line section.

There are two entrances for the village and the youth initially sealed both the points and advised the residents not to go out or invite anyone from outside.

Though it was opposed by village elders, the youth stood firm in their decision and undertook a round-the clock ‘vigil’. Now, they have also banned vehicles from entering the village, which has been sprayed with natural sanitizer (neem leaves and turmeric mix). They have also placed water in barrels for the residents to wash their hands and feet before entering the village.

Woman president seals panchayat boundary Similarly, ever since Section 144 was clamped, Chandra Kannusamy, president of Sengunam panchayat in the district, has sealed all the five entry points and had placed 1000 litre tanks mixed with natural sanitizer. She appealed the resident to wash their hands and feet at the entry points before entering the village. She has also asked the youth to monitor the process.

“We ensure water is there in all the five tanks and continue to create awareness among the people who are mostly farm workers. A team has been formed to monitor the people maintain the social distancing.

Even the vehicles are sprayed with the sanitizer”, said Chandra Kannusamy.
