Special care for 1,083 expectant mothers in Tiruvarur: Minister

Speaking to reporters after the review meeting with the officials, the minister said the Health and Sanitation Department along with the police have been initiating various steps to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19 in the district.

He said that as many as 33 persons have been undergoing treatment in the Tiruvarur Medical College with the symptoms of COVID-19. “On Friday, seven persons tested positive in the district and they were being given prompt treatment. While as many as 2,261 persons, who arrived from various countries and states were home-quarantined as many as 19,489 houses situated around the home-quarantined persons are being monitored by the health officials. They were instructed to approach the health officials if they feel any symptoms,” the minister said.

Stating that as many as 1,083 women from the district were identified to be expecting delivery during the lockdown period until April 14, the minister assured that all the expecting mothers would be provided prompt treatment and the Health Department has initiated steps to establish special arrangements for their safe delivery in the hospitals.

Earlier, the minister, who conducted a review meeting with the officials, asked the officials to ensure social distancing in the district. He reviewed the distribution of relief package by adhering to the norms. He said that 11.63 per cent people have availed of the package in the State on day one.

Tiruvarur District Collector D Anand, Superintendent of Police M Durai and others were present.
