CM to roll out 3,000 mobile fair price shops

Shortly after the roll-out of the One Nation One Ration card, making a series of announcements in the Assembly, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday said more than 3,000 mobile fair price shops will be launched at a cost of Rs 9.66 crore.

The Chief Minister, under Assembly Rule 110 said, the proposed 3,501 mobile ration shops will serve the people at their doorsteps.


He announced that a total of 105 Co-operative Loan Societies across the state will have own buildings at a cost of Rs 27.74 crore to improve the services to the customers.


“Infrastructure development in 95 Co-operative Societies will be taken up at a cost of Rs 14.75 crore to serve the existing and new customers on par with commercial banks,” he said adding “new head-office buildings will be constructed for Central Co-operative Societies functioning in Pudukkottai and Sivaganga districts respectively at a cost ofRs 17.87 crore.”


Stating that a high-tech Co-operative training centre will be established at Semavadavu village in Salem district at a cost of Rs 15.85 crore, Palaniswami announced that two community marriage halls will be constructed for Kancheepuram District Consumer Co-operative Sales unit at a cost of Rs 4.15 crore.


The Chief Minister also announced various initiatives for Fisheries Department at a cost of more than Rs 100 crore. Accordingly, infrastructure development will be carried out in fishing harbour at Thengapattinam in Kanniyakumari district at a cost of Rs 60 crore.


Similarly, the government will also undertake to improve the construction works in estuary situated at Pazhaverkadu lake in the neighbouring Tiruvallur district at a cost of Rs 27 crore.


“Jetty will be extended in Fisheries harbour at Thoothukudi district in order to park more fishing boats,” the Chief Minister said.


Announcing welfare measures in Food Department, Palaniswami said with the help of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, repair works will be undertaken in all the unused godowns so that to improve its capacity to store more than one lakh MT food grains at a cost of Rs 100 crore.


The Chief Minister said in order to encourage village community to breed country chickens for commercial sales, a total of 1,925 beneficiaries will be provided with 1,000 chickens each. “In addition, a month stock of poultry fodder will also be supplied to each one of the beneficiaries,” he said. The Chief Minister added “that all these initiatives will cost the exchequer to the tune of Rs 14.73 crore.”
