Strongly condemning the attack, Murugan demanded action on those who attacked the members of Hindu outfits. “Members of Hindu outfits, Anand and Sooriprakash, were violently attacked. In Anand’s case, only two were arrested; the remaining suspects should be arrested immediately,” said Murugan.
He added that none of those involved in the attack on Sooriprakash has been arrested so far. “The police should arrest all involved in the case and should ensure peace prevails in Coimbatore,” added the BJP president. Later in the day, Murugan visited the hospital to check on Anand and Sooriprakash.
Earlier, speaking to the media at Coimbatore airport, Murugan said he would work to ensure that the party won seats in the Assembly election. Noting that the party had MLAs in the past, Murugan said his focus as the State unit president would be make sure that the party was present in the State Assembly.
The party was remaining remained headless in the State for more than six months since the then chief, Tamilisai Soundararajan was appointed as the Governor of Telengana. Before being made the TN president, Murugan was the vice chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
