Holiday for LKG-Class 5 in TN schools bordering Kerala till March 31
With the alarming spread of COVID-19 in Kerala, the Directorate of School Education on Friday declared holidays for kindergarten and elementary schools from March 16 to March 31 in all districts bordering the neighbouring state as a preventive measure.

A release said, classes for LKG to Class 5 will not be conducted from March 16 to March 31 at Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Theni, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and The Nilgiris.
On Friday, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami also held a multi-departmental review meeting to monitor the government’s efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The decision to suspend classes was taken then. Health minister C Vijaya Baskar and secretary Dr Beela Rajesh also participated.
Health Department officials here clarified that no new sample was taken for testing COVID – 19. “The 45-year-old patient who returned from Muscat and tested positive for the virus is under step down care in the isolation ward at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital,” said Director of Public Health, Dr K Kolandaiswamy. “On Thursday, two more samples tested negative. Currently, 1,423 patients with travel history are under home quarantine, of which seven are admitted to isolation wards at government hospitals in the State. The patients under hospital quarantine are stable and will be discharged soon,” he added.
