After black balloons, Washermenpet anti-CAA protesters release 500 pigeons
Members of the Muslim community continued their protest against the CAA, the NRC and the NPR for the 29th day on Friday by releasing 500 pigeons at Old Washermenpet.

More than 4,000 members of the Muslim community were part of the protest, and they released 500 pigeons as they continued to shout slogans throughthe day.
“We are releasing 500 pigeons and these birds are like a messenger to the government to cancel the acts. Instead of just sitting in a place, we are trying to oppose in different ways so it would reach the public and the government easily. People are bored and they do not pay attention to continuous protests, unless there is something new. We want to keep people interested so that they continue to lend their support to our cause,” said Wajith M, Old Washermenpet president, YegathuvaMuslim Jamath.
The stay order at the High Court is being extended till Tuesday, and the protesters said that they want a permanent solution to these acts. “Recently, Minister RB Udhayakumar said that they would keep the NPR on hold, but we want a permanent solution for these acts. The police are asking us to move from the place because it has been almost a month. But there are general public, who are protesting, even if we move from this place the general public is not willing to go,” said Mohammed Asif, a protester at Washermenpet.
On Sunday, around 20,000 people will be gathering at Washermenpet. We will be holding black flags and raise slogans against the acts, he said. Meanwhile, the top panel members of the Makkal Needhi Maiam extended their support to the protesters against the CAA, NPR and the NRC. Mourya, Sripriya, Kameela Nasar, Gopinath, Poovai Jegadhesh, Rangarajan, and Vaidheeswaran were presentat the protest.
Pudukkottai outfits plan stir on March 17
The Makkal Ottrumai Medai, a confederation of political parties, social activists and Muslim organisations of Pudukkottai, convened a meeting here on Friday, in which they resolved to organise a one-day sit-in protest in various places in the district on March 17. The meeting was chaired by district Congress Committee president Ibrahim Babu and the meeting decided to hold 24-hour sit-in protest from 10 am on March 17 to 10 am on March 18 at all the taluk headquarters, including Pudukkottai, Gandharvakottai, Ponnamaravathi, Karambakudi, Aranthangi, Kottaipattinam and Manalmelkudi. The meeting also resolved to seek the support of all the political parties, social organisations and the VIPs from the district. The meeting also resolved to insist on the State government to pass a resolution against the CAA in the Assembly. “This is probably for the first time, the Pudukkottai district has been holding a wide protest on a single day and the like-minded people would support the protest which has been planned to organise in a peaceful way,” Ashokan, the coordinator of the Makkal Ottrumai Medai toldreporters after the meeting.
