    Sample testing facility opened in Theni district

    The State health department has opened sample testing facilities for COVID-19 in Theni also. The sample lifting facilities have been made available in several districts in the State, including Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Tiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Coimbatore and Salem.

    Meanwhile, the condition of patient admitted to the isolation ward at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital is stable. He will be discharged after two consecutive samples tested negative.


    State Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar on Wednesday urged the citizens to extend all support to keep the virus away by spreading awareness in family, community and workplace about the need for frequent handwashing, and cough etiquettes. He said the State health department will continue all stringent measures to keep Tamil Nadu free from COVID-19.


    One more sample has been sent for testing and a total of 75 samples have been taken from the passengers and sent for testing at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and National Institute of Virology, Pune. Of the 74 samples processed, 73 have tested negative. While one sample had tested positive for COVID-19, one sample is still under process.


    In Tamil Nadu, till date 1,46,704 passengers are screened at the airports of Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, and Coimbatore, of which 1,265 passengers are under home quarantine for 28 days and nine under hospital quarantine.


    As per a bulletin issued by the State health department, people are advised to refrain from travelling to China, Iran, Republic of Korea, Italy and Japan, and are advised to avoid non-essential travel to other COVID-19 affected countries. All those coming from China, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Iran and Italy or having such travel history should remain under strict home quarantine or hospital isolation for 28 days from the date of arrival in India.
