Upset over wife’s death, man kills sons, ends life

The deceased have been identified as Sundar (42), truck driver, and his sons Sunil (13) and Vimal (9), sources said. After learning about the incident, Alanganallur police inspected the spot and held inquiries. Investigations revealed that the three committed suicide after taking poison.

Sundar, the lone breadwinner of the family, got dejected months after the death of his wife Indhumathi (35).

She died six months ago after falling ill.

As Sundar felt the family’s survival would be difficult after the loss of his wife, who took care of her sons during his absence, he took this extreme step. Sundar, who was destined to look after his sons, had no alternative to continue his work to earn livelihoods for running his family. Before ending his life, Sundar offered bananas laced with insecticide to his sons Sunil, who studied in Class 8 and Vimal, student of Class 4 in the same school. Subsequently, Sundar also consumed poison.

The incident might have occurred Monday late night. While some of the neighbours knocked on the door, which remained closed unusually even after late morning hours, there’s no response. The neighbours then broke open the door to find the inmates lying dead in the house.
