In a resolution adopted at the party’s special general council for the 2021 election, PMK said the reports of the few unnecessary questions were incorporated in the NPR to facilitate the implementation of the NRC has created fear among all sections of the people in the state. It added that the it is the duty of the state government to create confidence among the public.
“PMK has adopted a resolution on December 31, 2019, in its general council meeting stating that there was no need for the NRC in Tamil Nadu. Accepting our demand, the state government has declared that the NRC would not be implemented in the state,” it noted.
PMK, an ally of the AIADMK-BJP alliance in the state, said that six questions – parents place of birth, date of birth and Aadhaar number – in the NPR has created panic among the people. “Despite the state government writing to the Centre seeking removal of these six questions, the people continue to live with fear.
To allay the fear among the public, a resolution should be adopted in the Assembly stating that the NRC would not be implemented and the controversial questions on the NPR would be dropped,” it demanded.
