He said the CM was trying to cover up his corruptions by sporting a green shawl and claiming to be a farmer. Wondering if his betrayal in hydrocarbon issue was not enough, the DMK headquarters secretary said the CM, who projected himself as a corporate person by arresting the protesting farmers who had opposed hydrocarbon projects, has announced special protected agricultural zone to deceive people after the defeats in Lok Sabha and local body elections.

Alleging that the Centre and state governments have passed the legislation to ensure that the existing projects are implemented without hassles, Nehru, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the CM should have answered the queries raised by his leader Stalin if he were honest in his intentions. Quoting the new legislation as saying that food security of the state has been threatened by non-agricultural activities in the recent years, Nehru wondered if the legislation was being passed because of the damage caused by the existing hydrocarbon projects, would it not be oxymoron to permit to existing hydrocarbon projects to continue?

“The idea of a protected agricultural zone would become meaningless if the existing hydrocarbon wells would be unaffected,” Nehru remarked, seeking to know who had incarcerated the farmers overnight for opposing the Salem-Chennai eight-lane project. Charging that a toothless legislation has been passed to support the Centre in turning the delta region parched, Nehru asked as to who had wielded the batons against farmers and slapped National Security Act on farmers for trying to protect their land?

Opining that farmers of the state were put to shame by the CM claiming to be farmer, Nehru advised Palaniswami not to engage in such drama, which, he described, was disgusting.
