With an increase of pilgrims in the district, hoarding and sale of ganja were a huge concern to police officials who conducted an anti-ganga drive on Sunday that helped nab the culprits. The drive was conducted by SP MR Sibi Chakravarthy.

The accused were identified as Mangai (38) and her husband Ashok Kumar (47). The couple possessed 1.60 kilos of ganja.

Similarly, 2.20 kilos of ganja was held by Marikannu (45) wife of Ganesh and Selvakumar (40). All the accused are from different places in the town. However, cops are on the lookout for two persons – Sethupathy (27) and wife Deepika (23) – who escaped after being alerted but police seized nearly 2.20 kilos ganja from Sethupathy’s house. Cases have been registered and the accused have been lodged in the Vellore central prison, sources revealed.
