“During the debate on the budget, our party legislators, including Palanivel Thiagarajan have raised several questions. But there were no proper answers from the treasury bench members,” he said in a statement.

Stating that the state’s debt burden has tripled since 2011, when AIADMK assumed office, the DMK leader alleged that more funds were allocated only to the departments held by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers SP Velumani and P Thangamani.

Claiming that the state budget had come under severe criticism from the common people and economic experts, Stalin said even after several requests, the AIADMK government did not bother to bring anti-CAA resolution in the Assembly.

“The ruling party also did not allow discussions on the implications of National Population Register exercise,” he said adding “during the session, even the Ministers had not discussed about it.”

Alleging that his party members were not even allowed to speak in the House about issues that affect the people, the DMK president said, “most time was allocated for the AIADMK members only to appreciate themselves.”

On the release of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Stalin asked that though it was the discretion of the Governor to release the convicts, why the AIADMK government did not question the Governor for the delay as per the apex court’s direction. “This shows that there was no real concern to take measures to release the seven convicts,” he added.

Stalin, whose party has been charging the AIADMK government with ‘staunchly supporting’ the BJP government at the Centre’s initiatives, including the amended Citizenship Act, disapproved budget proposals, saying it not only lacked vision, but also no schemes for economic growth.
