While the court had already directed the Election Commission to submit the CCTV footage of vote counting from all centres of 13 districts under the jurisdiction of this court within 5 pm, on January 3 to the court Registrar, the Election Commission filed a petition seeking additional duration of 15 days for the submission. When the petition came up for hearing before a Division Bench of M Duraiswamy and T Ravindran, on Wednesday the counsel on behalf of the Election Commission stated that currently downloading the footage of counting process recorded in more than 7,000 CCTV cameras and saving the footage on hard disc would take more time.

Only after completing such process, the CCTV report could be submitted before the court. Citing these, the counsel sought 15 days of additional time to complete the task. On hearing it, the bench said already five days had gone by after the deadline passed, the CCTV footage had not been submitted and added that reasons for delay would not be accepted.
