“As far as I know Nellai Kannan he is a good spiritual orator and a literary person. Though his words might be wrong he does not have any wrong intention. He was formerly with Congress party, but now he does not even speak in political meetings and Nellai Kannan being a patient we need not stress on the issue further,” said Vaiko, while addressingreporters, at MDMK headquarters, in Chennai.

Recently, Nellai Kannan in a public meeting in Tirunelveli criticised BJP leaders, including Modi and Amit Shah. State BJP leaders claimed that Nellai Kannan’s speech was directed at creating fissures between Hindu and Islamic community and he had instigated the Muslims to kill Modi and Amit Shah.

Speaking about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, Vaiko said, “When BJP introduced the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament even the BJP MPs were not aware of it. Now the entire country is protesting against CAA and Jharkhand results are the indication that government has lost its favour among the people.”

He also said that the BJP government is pushing its agenda vigorously in the form of various legislations. “Starting from diluting Article 370 to banning Triple Talaq and the recently passed CAA, the BJP is pushing its agenda of Hindutva fast in the country. BJP government is also steadily imposing Hindi and Sanskrit which is evident from the name Jal Sakthi Ministry which should have been ideally Ministry of Water Resources,” said Vaiko.

Not in support of dual citizenship

He further said that he does not support dual citizenship for Sri Lankan refugees. “If Lankan refugees wish to stay in India, they should be given Indian citizenship and if they want to return to their motherland they should be allowed to return. Dual citizenship will not serve any purpose,” said Vaiko.
