Locals and passers-by, who spotted the mutilated bodies along the railway tracks alerted the police. Following this, a team of the government railway police rushed to the spot, retrieved the mutilated bodies and sent them for post-mortem to the nearest government hospital. Cops also held inquiries at the spot.

Police said the deceased were identified as Uthirapathi (49), Sangeetha (40), Abhinaya Shri (15) and Akash (12), hailing from Woriyur area in Tiruchy.

Prima facie, it appeared that all the four members of the family might have committed suicide by jumping before a train. However, no suicide note left by the victims was found near the tracks. The exact reason behind the deaths could be ascertained only after a detailed investigation, government railway police sources said and added that all the four had travelled from Tiruchy to Kodai Road railway station by road as bus tickets were recovered from the victims’ possession. Police also recovered the Aadhaar cards of the deceased which were found among belongings. Further investigations are on.
