Of late, the IT wings of both BJP and AIADMK have been posting videos and pictures targeting Stalin. The BJP IT wing has gone a step ahead by posting a picture of Stalin, in Twitter, standing behind bars with a comment “we are waiting” with an intention to malign the image of the Dravidian leader, but it has backfired as Twitterati commented against the post, he added.

There were more than 100 comments for the post mostly criticising BJP. One of the users commented, “This is too much. You (BJP) are violating media usage policy.”

Many users criticised BJP for posting such posts with cheap political interests. Following severe criticism and comments, the post was removed from social media. Similarly, there were couple of videos of Stalin posted on social media. The videos of Stalin from various public meetings were trimmed and selective statements where Stalin has erred were highlighted. The posts received backlash as Twitterati posted videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders sleeping in Parliament when important debates on economy were going on.

The AIADMK on the other hand is targeting Stalin both online and offline. Apart from social media, Stalin is also targeted in Namadhu Amma, party organ of AIADMK. In an article in Namadhu Amma on the local body elections, Stalin’s caricature was carried out in a derogatory manner and his statement on local body elections was criticised.

DMK leader and MP Bharathi reacting to the activities of BJP and AIADMK in criticising Stalin, said, “When there are burning issues in the country, including slowdown and controversy surrounding Citizenship (Amendment) Bill the parties refuse to debate on such topics and function with the sole aim of criticising DMK for which our party and party leader are not concerned.”

However, the BJP justifies the attack on Stalin. BJP state secretary R Srinivasan said, “Attacking Stalin is the principal duty of BJP and Stalin too on several occasions has personally criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite the criticism it is not advisable to indulge in personal attacks.”
