Condemning the State Election Commission (SEC) for announcing the revised the poll schedule on Saturday without complying with the directions of the Supreme Court on the issue, a meeting of DMK district secretaries, MLAs and MPs on Sunday, resolved to unilaterally accept the proposal of the party president MK Stalin that they have no other option but to move the court again.

Going by sources, the DMK is likely to move a petition on Monday challenging the revised December 7 notification of the SEC for conduct of polls to rural local bodies in all but the nine new districts.

Dubbing Friday’s verdict of the SC as a ‘victory’ to its three-year legal battle and a lesson taught to the AIADMK for blaming the DMK, the meeting also registered its strong condemnation against the SEC for announcing the revised civic poll notification on December 7 with the intention of it somehow getting stayed.

The opposition party also condemned the ruling AIADMK, which had repeatedly suffered the rapping of the High Court and Supreme Court for not conducting the polls for three years, for blaming the DMK to cover up its failure and making the SEC function as its sidekick. Welcoming the “golden guidelines” laid down by the apex court for conducting the civic polls in an honest and transparent manner, the meeting cited the observations and queries raised by the SC during the case hearing and said the court order has laid bare the joint conspiracy of the AIADMK and SEC to delay the civic polls.

Remarking that the DMK had moved the court only with the intention to ensure conduct of free and fair polls to the local bodies in the state, the DMK meeting of district secretaries concluded that it was prepared to face the polls anytime.
