VCK chief: Create separate flag for state
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday demanded the state government to create a separate flag for Tamil Nadu.

“Neighbouring states like Karnataka already possess a flag of their own. At the time of celebrating Tamil Nadu Day, the state government should take this as an opportunity and create a new flag for Tamil Nadu,” said Thirumavalavan, in a statement.
He also said that though the neighbouring states have already commenced their celebrations of the state day long before Tamil Nadu, it is still happy that the state has now come forward to celebrate Tamil Nadu Day. However, January 14 would be apt to celebrate Tamil Nadu Day as Madras Presidency was changed into Tamil Nadu on January 14, 1969, by former Chief Minister CN Annadurai, he added.
Criticises Congress
Meanwhile, Thirumavalavan also criticised the Congress, one of the alliance partners, in not naming Tamil Nadu during their tenure. “Former Congress leader Sankaralinganar fasted to change the name of Madras Presidency to Tamil Nadu in 1956 and Congress was ruling the state at that time, but they did not consider the demands of Sankaralinganar, who died of fasting on October 13, 1956. It was only DMK that fulfilled the demandsof Sankaralinganar,” said Thirumavalavan.
