According to the police, Fathima, the daughter of Mansoor Ali and Sharmila from Narayanan Colony in Udumalpet had fallen ill a week ago.


She was admitted in Udumalpet Government Hospital on September 18, but despite treatment, her fever did not subside. She was then shifted to Pollachi Government Hospital where she was diagnosed of dengue.


As her condition deteriorated, Fathima was shifted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, early on Tuesday while being under ventilator support. Within an hour after admission, however, she died. The death comes barely a fortnight after a seven-year-old boy succumbed to dengue in Erode district.


Saran, a Class two student of a private school in Thalavadi was admitted in Thalavadi Government Hospital. As he did not recover despite intensive treatment, he was shifted to a private hospital in Mysore, where he died without responding to treatment.


In Chennai, a six-year-old girl succumbed to the dengue virus at Institute of Child Health on Monday.


“The girl had fever for two days and was brought with severe pneumonia and treated at the intensive care unit. The case was suspected to be viral fever death but the reports confirmed dengue on Tuesday,” said Dr K Jeyachandran, the director of Institute of Child Health.
