In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said that hiking of the user fees in the toll plazas would have a cascading effect and leading to a price rise of essential commodities.

“Due to the wrong economic policies pursued by the BJP government at the Centre, the country is reeling under economic crisis. People are facing an attack on several fronts due to closure of industries and loss of jobs. At this time, the price rise of the cooking gas has been increased by Rs 16 per cylinder, that too at a time when the LGP prices fell in the international market. Similarly, the rise of the user fee by the NHAI has inflicted the worst attack on the people,” he said.

The Marxist party condemned the Centre for burdening the poor and the middle class people with such increase in prices.

CPI state secretary R Mutharasan condemned the hike in user fee at toll plazas. “In every toll plaza, the motorist has to pay Rs 15 more as user fee now. People using private mode of transport, hire vehicles and transport vehicles were severely hit by the hike in the toll charges,” he said.
