    Pollachi: A town with picturesque locales

    Located about 40 km to the south of Coimbatore, Pollachi is often known as ‘Coconut Capital’ of Tamil Nadu, where coconut exports and coir mills flourish well. The town has one of the biggest markets in Asia and the cattle market of Pollachi is considered as the largest in south India.

    Its location near the Western Ghats not only provides for extremely pleasant weather throughout the year but also charming scenic beauty. The picturesque location has become a favourite among filmmakers with over 1,500 movies being shot at Pollachi in the past few years.


    Arivu Thirukovil (Temple of Consciousness): It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Pollachi. Yogiraj Vethathiri Maharishi established this ashram to transform people’s lives with health, peace, happiness, and prosperity. One can also buy books on meditation and spirituality at a low cost here.


    Amaravathi Dam and Crocodile Park: Constructed across the Amaravathi River, the crocodile park is known to be the largest crocodile park in India and a visit here will be unlike any other experience.


    Santhosh Organic Farm: Located at the foot of Anaimalai Hills, this organic farm has been practicing natural farming since 1997. The 50-acre farm contains plantations such as coconut, pure teak, lemon and areca nut, casuarina, rosewood, kumil, amla, suppotta, melia dubia and Vakai.


    Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary: At a height of about 1,400 meters from the sea level, this sanctuary experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. It also gives access to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. The overwhelming greenery here is home to thriving wildlife, including pangolins, jackals, porcupines, deer, elephants, and flying squirrels. Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary is also referred to as the Indira Gandhi National Park.


    You can also visit the jaggery market and cattle and iron markets in Pollachi. The town also houses various temples such as Ramalinga Sowdeshwari amman temple, Subramania Swamy Temple, Maasani Amman Thirukoil and Alagunachi Amman Temple to name a few.


    The ancient name for Pollachi was Porul achi meaning ‘the land of natural wealth and prosperity’. The town was also known by the name of Mudi Konda Chola Nallur during the reign of Kulottunga Chola III. The closest international airport to Pollachi is Coimbatore airport. Buses operate from Pollachi bus stand to nearby areas. The closest major railway station to Pollachi is the Coimbatore railway station.
