Kathir Anand may get a post in DMK youth wing

The buzz in Arivalayam was that newly elected DMK Vellore MP Kathir Anand could be given a responsibility in the party youth wing.

Sources have it that party Treasurer Duraimurugan’s son Kathir Anand, who scraped through in Vellore by a narrow margin of 8,141 votes, could be ‘rewarded’ with a state-level post in the wing helmed by Stalin junior. Speculations of Kathir Anand’s elevation started doing the rounds after his father Duraimurugan was understood to have confided to his friends in Vellore that the high command was contemplating a state-level post to his son.

If Kathir’s elevation happens, as was believed in some party circles, could be a great relief for Duraimurugan who has been sulking privately over party president Stalin expressing his displeasure at him not putting up an elaborate show in his native Vellore. Also, the elevation could take the Treasurer’s son closer to the party leadership, as it did to Ponmudi’s son Gowtham, who was successfully picked for Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency at the behest of Stalin junior.

Notably, Kathir would only be the most recent heir in the party organisation to join the youth wing ranks. Sons of at least a few regional satraps hold position in the wing already. Former DMK MLA and Stalin’s close friend Anbil Poyyamozhi’s son Mahesh Poyyamozhi and former minister Pongalur Palanisamy’s son Painthamizh Paari already hold the post of deputy secretaries of DMK youth wing. That aside, sons of at least a few former ministers, including K Ponmudi have voluntarily signed up for the youth brigade assignment, understandably, to join the influential coterie. Unsurprisingly, a few old guards in the party were not enthused by the rumoured elevation of another heir. “Just now we have slowly recovered from the guard change in youth wing leadership. At least they could wait a while before bringing another heir on board to avoid critics who are already pouncing on us at every opportunity,” said a DMK senior who did not wish to be named.
