Chennai
State Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, the official spokesperson of the party, extended the invitation for Deepa saying, “AIADMK is ready to invite Deepa if she disbands her party and joinsthe ruling party.”
Deepa shot into prominence after the death of Jayalalithaa as she claimed that she is the political heir of Jayalalithaa and demanded that she should be made the Chief Minister. But, as her demands were not realised, she formed a separate party, MGR Amma Deepa Peravai. Initially, Deepa attracted large number of AIADMK cadre to her party, but due to minor infights the cadre returned to the AIADMK.
In the meantime, Deepa’s husband, Madhavan, split from her and formed another party, but later they merged. Of late, Deepa was silent in politics as there were no announcements from her for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Under these circumstances, Deepa announced her retirement from politics, on Tuesday, stating that she had no proper guidance in the field of politics and women are not encouraged to enter politics in the state.
